Major Russell B. Cromley’s journey began in Warren, Ohio, where he was born in 1970. He answered the
call to serve in 1987 through the Marine Corps delayed‑entry program. After completing recruit training
at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in 1988, his distinguished military career officially began.
Russell earned a Bachelor’s degree in Management/Computer Information Systems (with honors) from
Park University and a Master of Science in Management from Liberty University Graduate School.
His professional credentials include the CISSP, PMP, and additional certifications that reflect
deep expertise in cybersecurity, program management, and enterprise IT leadership.
Throughout his Marine Corps career, Russell advanced from enlisted ranks to Gunnery Sergeant, then Warrant
Officer, and ultimately served as a Limited Duty Officer, retiring as a Major in 2014 from Marine
Forces Pacific. His assignments spanned command, operational, and staff roles across logistics, communications,
enterprise IT, and data systems.
Early operational duties included service as a Rifleman with Marine Corps Security Forces and The Seventh
Marine Regiment, including deployment to Somalia during Operation Restore Hope. Russell’s engineering and IT
responsibilities included roles as a Computer Programmer, Systems Analyst, and Data Systems Officer, with
deployments supporting Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
After transitioning from the military, Russell continued his leadership path in the civilian sector. He has
served as CIO and CTO across major organizations, including work with the U.S. Federal Government and Microsoft.
With over 30 years of combined military and civilian IT experience, he excels in aligning technology with
mission objectives, modernizing operations, and leading secure, resilient digital environments.
Russell actively supports civic and professional communities. His board service includes Crusades22, Defeat
Suicide Foundation, and AFCEA. Beyond technology and service, he has volunteered as a sports official for
MiBL, NCAA programs, local high schools, and Little League—demonstrating a long‑standing commitment to
mentorship, integrity, and community development.
A proud father and grandfather, Russell cherishes his daughters Krista, Makenzie, and Kailinn; his son
Joshua; and grandchildren Makenna, Owen, Lauralie, and Rielynn. His life and career reflect the Marine Corps
values of honor, courage, and commitment, carrying that ethos into every dimension of his
leadership and mission‑driven work.
